The Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and
engineered by Sir William Cubitt, was revolutionary in its
architecture. It implemented a modular construction system
using pre-fabricated iron sections that were assembled on
site. This innovative process allowed for it to be built
inexpensively and efficiently. For these reasons, its
construction is considered the beginning of Modernism.
