In the 1960s, posters were reestablished as a vehicle for propaganda and protest. And Babies?, photographed by Ron Haeberle and captioned by Peter Brandt, is one of the most shocking protest posters from the antiwar movement. The photograph shows the aftermath of the My Lai massacre of Vietnamese civilians by American forces in 1968. The horrific scene in the poster stands out even more because of the cold, clinical feel of the question and answer; the opaque, blood-red type is suspended over the dead bodies. This type of poster had a prominent role in counterculture as they drew the awareness of young people who wanted to better the society.
