The first appearances of printed paper money in the United States were "Shinplasters", printed in 1862, and in Canada in 1870. The country in which the money is accepted can be found clearly in the center of the composition.
Fourth Liberty Loan bonds were distributed in late 1918 by the United States government. Both the name of the document and the country issuing it are found in the center of the document in large, bold text.
In 1932 the government in Germany, the Republic of Weimar, printed large denominations of money, designed by Herbert Bayer. The name of the country appears very small in comparison with other bills.
